Belly Dance Classes

Egypt is Calling

Regular classes run from September to April of each year. In April and May we host our annual Spring Thing which is a chance for students from all levels to come together and explore different aspects of dance in more depth than can be done in regular classes. Please join us!

Adult classes run in twelve week blocks and are scheduled for Mondays and Thursdays. Spring Thing runs six weeks and is scheduled for Mondays. Registration is on the first night of each block of classes. It usually only takes about 15 minutes so please do be prepared to dance on that first night. You can speed up the registration process and shorten the line-ups by downloading a registration form and bringing it in already completed. You’ll need Adobe Acrobat Reader® installed on your computer to view the registration form. If you don’t already have it, its available as a free download by clicking the appropriate link in the box below.

We offer several levels of classes. If you have taken classes with other teachers but are new to our technique and teaching style, we will ask that you start with beginners. Each teacher has a different style, technique and way of describing moves so you and we will find it easier to work from the same perspective.

We use a building block method of teaching. This means that you will learn a number of moves at each level of dance that you can put in your dance “toolkit” and bring out when you free dance. We will add variations to these basic moves as you progress through the classes.

Our primary focus in the classes is improvisational dance – dancing to the music as it inspires you at the time. This is, in essence, the most traditional type of Egyptian dance so we feel it is critical that students learn this. This means you can put on any type of music and be able to dance. It also means that you can more easily develop choreographies down the road if you so choose because you know what steps work with what part of music.

If you decide to move into advanced we will introduce choreographies and opportunities for stage performances. However, we have had students who have stayed at the intermediate levels for years because they just want to dance.
